Trofeo
Trofeo for Chess

A chess ladder with ratings done right.

Chess deserves better than win counts. Trofeo supports Glicko-2 - the modern successor to Elo used by major chess platforms - including proper draw handling and rating reliability that tightens as you play.

Chess questions, answered.

Why Glicko-2 instead of Elo for chess?

Glicko-2 extends Elo with a reliability measure (RD): a returning or new player's rating moves quickly while uncertain, then stabilises. It's the approach used by major chess sites.

How are draws handled?

As real results. A draw against a stronger player nudges your rating up; against a weaker one, slightly down - exactly as over-the-board rating systems work.

Can we run a club championship?

Yes - a round-robin over weeks or a knockout in an afternoon, with standings, tie-handling, and a public bracket link for the noticeboard.

Glicko-2 and the problem of drawsChess breaks two of Elo's assumptions: draws are everywhere, and not every rating is equally trustworthy.
